Nigerian Civil War : Biafra

The Nigerian Civil War is a historical committee and was characterized by ethnic and political tensions between the Nigerian government and the ‘breakaway region’ of Biafra. This committee will explore diplomatic, military, and humanitarian strategies for reconciliation.

Approximate committee size: 15 single delegations

Note: This committee addresses complex topics that require significant historical understanding. Participation in these committees should be reserved for only those with prior Model UN experience. All delegates are advised to read the letter from the Undersecretary-General for Crisis Simulations linked above before beginning research for the committee.

Committee Chairs

  • Aditya Badhrayan

Aditya Badhrayan is a junior and is ecstatic to be a chair for this year’s GSMUN! Aditya also is the treasurer of the MUN club and has been doing MUN for the past 4 years, winning awards at conferences like ODUMUNC and WMHSMUN. Outside of MUN, Aditya is a lead manager of FRC Team 422: The Mech Tech Dragons, President of his school’s TSA chapter, and an EMT. If he’s not at school, Aditya is definitely taking a nap or trying to get better at violin (not possible). He is super excited to work with all the delegates, and cannot wait for an exciting and engaging committee!

  • Maddy Dunaway

Maddy Dunaway is a junior and has been involved in GSMUN since her freshman year. Her favorite parts of Model UN are learning about new topics and perspectives while meeting new people. Maddy is also class secretary, Arabic honors society vice-president, and working to get her archeology technician certification. Her favorite subjects are global history, film photography, and Arabic. Outside of school, she enjoys rock climbing, listening to music, reading, and spending an atrocious amount of time on Pinterest. Nigerian history is one of her favorite topics she has researched, and she’s enthusiastic to see how delegates interpret the Biafran war’s various aspects while engaging in educated debate.
